The increased use of computer technology in all spheres of life has come with challenges of security regarding the safety of information assets in many organisations. Cyber-attacks have become a common thing across the globe and the information assets of many organisations are threatened. Some organisations have had to go without a service for days in order to contend with cyber threats. Zambia has had its own share of cyber-attacks but these will increase with increased used of ICTs. ZCAS University has found it necessary to contribute in a positive way to the cyber-criminal scourge by introducing the Bachelor of Science in Cyber Security (BCS) degree programme. Zambia needs to produce a large number of security professionals protect organisations information assets from cyber-attacks and the eminent loss of data. The Bachelor of Science in Cyber Security (BCS) degree programme will thus go a long way in equip candidate with the skills to defend information assets in Zambian organisations.

The overall aim of the Bachelor of Science in Cyber Security (BCS) degree programme is to  is to equip candidates with knowledge and skills in security and forensics which can be applied in various sectors of the country in order protect and defend information assets in the country.

ADMISSION CRITERIA

To qualify for admission to the BCS degree programme an applicant must have any of the following qualifications:

  1. Five credits at ‘O’ Level including English and Mathematics.

  2. Part or full qualifications in a recognised advanced ICT Diploma, or any other relevant qualification as may be approved by ZCAS University.

  3. Any relevant three-year ICT diploma from a reputable college or university.

  4. At least three ‘A’ level passes including Mathematics or equivalent.

  5. Any degree from a recognised institution.

DURATION OF STUDY

The course of study for the award of the BCS degree shall be completed in a period of:

  • Not less than four and not more than six academic years in the case of full-time students;

  • Not less than five and not more than seven academic years in the case of evening students;

  • Not less than four and not more than seven academic years in the case of distance education students;

  • Not less than five and not more than seven academic years in the case of part time students;

  • Provided that for candidates awarded exemptions on account of prior learning, the duration may be shorter, but not less than one year.
