INTRODUCTION
The Bachelor of Arts in Human Resource Management (BHR) degree programme is designed to meet the growing demand for qualified Human Resources Management in various Public and Private Organisations. It is intended for the following groups of people:
School leavers who want to pursue a Human Resources management,
Current employees in the human resources management industry,
Holders of full diploma in human resources or any such relevant qualifications who wish to pursue a human resources management career,
The BHR degree programme is a ZCAS University Programme offered and administered by ZCAS University. Student registration, teaching and examination take place at ZCAS. In administering the Programme, the University observes internal and external quality assurance standards including the appointment of qualified lecturers to teach the courses.
RATIONALE
The demand for Human Resources Management personnel has made it necessary to introduce the BHR degree programme to raise the standards of human resources management issues in various organisations. ZCAS University presents an opportunity to produce a product that will help to raise the standard of managing labour issues in the country and the region.
AIM
The aim of this programme is to equip candidates with knowledge and skills in the fields of accountancy and commerce and pedagogy in order for them to teach accountancy and commerce effectively.
OBJECTIVES
By the end of the programme, candidates should be able to:
explain major theories and concepts of human resource management;
demonstrate knowledge of how to effectively manage and plan key human resource functions within organisations;
examine, analyse and interpret current issues, trends, practices, and processes in human resource management;
outline how they can contribute to employee performance management and organisational effectiveness;
show understanding of how to solve human resource challenges in the organisation; and
develop effective research, written and oral communication skills.
ADMISSION CRITERIA
To qualify for admission to the BHR degree programme an applicant must have any of the following:
Five credits at ‘O’ Level including English and Mathematics
First year of Bachelor of Arts in Human Resources
Diploma in Human Resources Management
Any relevant three year accountancy diploma from a reputable college or university
At least three ‘A’ level passes including Mathematics or equivalent.
Any degree from a recognised institution.
EXEMPTIONS
A student who has, prior to admission to the BHR, attended, whether at ZCAS University or elsewhere, courses of instruction and passed examinations equivalent in standard to courses and examinations which form part of the programme of study may, subject to approval, be exempted from attendance of classes and examinations in those courses.
No exemptions are available in respect of third and fourth year courses regardless of the candidate’s qualifications.
